Developed by Steven Hayes, ACT uses acceptance and mindfulness to help overcome psychological distress. Rather than struggling against their thoughts and feelings, the person learns to accept them, to defuse from them, and to commit to action in the present according to their values. Indications: post-traumatic stress, generalized anxiety disorder, and depression.
