Dzogchen (Great Perfection, Tibetan Nyingma Tradition)

FR
DZO

Dzogchen (Great Perfection) aims at the direct recognition and stabilization of rigpa, the pure, unfabricated, empty and luminous presence or awareness, to be distinguished from sems (the ordinary discursive mind). The path unfolds according to three inseparable moments — the view (tawa), meditation (gompa) and action (chopa) — and rests on the principle of self-liberation (rang drol), whereby thoughts free themselves when they are left without grasping or rejection. The two main techniques are trekcho (cutting through grasping) and togel (a restricted practice). The author stresses that Dzogchen is not a psychotherapy but a path of liberation; its elements are adapted in therapy for chronic anxiety, rumination, bereavement and the relationship to death, with a formal contraindication for severe psychotic and dissociative disorders.
